"I was a bit disturbed to see this guy on 60 minutes last night, once again, bringing up Abraham Lincoln in an interview. He obviously wants to establish a specious connection with the great leader as he has brought Lincoln up on many other occasions and even campaigned with a banner bearing Lincoln’s image in front of the State House where Lincoln served. What makes it so appalling is that the primary issues for which Obama stands are in direct opposition to the father of the GOP.

Probably just as well. I'm sure they would have been alternately fascinated and appalled at the state of the Union in 1861. And by the outcome of the War also... I don't doubt they would have had a lot of advice for President Lincoln.
Interesting topic for speculation.
Historically-literate Americans laugh at the conceit of a run-of-the-mill Marxist-Leninist comparing himself (by inference) to Lincoln. But the unions got hold of the public schools two generations ago and have produced a dumbed down populace. That is one of Obama’s greatest strentghs.

I was driving behind a guy with Illinois plates the other day and the state motto “Land of Lincoln” gave me pause to consider how long it is before there is a movement to either replace “Land of Lincoln” with “Land of Obama” or change it to “Land of Lincoln and Obama”. Probably a lot sooner than Obama will prove himself worthy of being held in anything close to the esteem of Lincoln.

Lincoln did not free even one slave. That is a hyped up myth.

Lincoln was one of the founders of the Reupublican Party in 1854, which is what the author probably meant.
The Republican Party was established for the purpose of abolishing slavery and returning to the principles the country was founded on (they used The Declaration of Independence as their guide, Lincoln called it their central idea.)
Lincoln was a proponent of individual rights and limited government. Obama is no Lincoln.

Maybe 0bama wants to lead the Nation in a Civil War like Lincoln. I’m a fan of Lincoln, but let’s be honest, he did not heal the nation. He waged war on half of it and had no interest in ending the conflict on anything other than his terms.
Abraha Lincoln learned to read by reading the bible. Obama spent his formative years in Indonesia with the Muslims.

I never stopped to think when I formed that title that anyone would think I was contending Lincoln was a founding FATHER of the United States. Thanks for pointing that out.
