Why Not Buy Newspapers?
http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_files/irol/80/80412/JRC2007AR.pdf ^

You know, folks, by my count we could buy a controlling stake in the Journal -Register company for, oh, about $70,000.

We could get the Sun Times Media Group - or at least half of the Class A shares - for about a million and a half bucks.

Hell, why not? Is Rush reading? He's got cash. Let's buy up the old media, dump most of the staff and the unprofitable titles, and make a bundle in the process.

Hell, we could have a few hundred newspapers for the cost of one Freepathon.

Time to put the left-over champagne away, don’t you think?

Why not is right.

We had friends who bought a couple of banks from Resolution Trust when the savings and loan debacle hit.

Bought them for just about nothing too.

Interesting idea, but if you’re going to end up dumping most of the staff anyways, why bother? Just start your own paper.

Buy them up? Well, then you would have the headache of running them. Isn’t it more fun to watch them circle the drain on their own?

The idea is ok, but I think that most of the slimeball MSM papers have fixed the game.

I'm no corporate whiz, but I think there are ways to prevent shareholders from taking control without whopping percentages of shares in their control.

I do know that there are poison pill and severance poison pill packages that can be contracted so you can't just fire the bums and make Ann Coulter Editor in Chief.

It could be fun. Could you imagine having editorial contests on FR with the best being printed in the finest east coast lefty rags? Printing Letters to the Editor with FR-style responses? Too fun!

Perfect strategery - Alas we do not have the 90 percentile media propagandists, public education, rap music, union workers, Hollywood elites, academia elites or the mind-numbed public on our side.

Short of buying up all left wing TV channels, subliminal advertising outlets, internet browsers and newspapers..firing all teachers & professors, disbanding the unions, restoring the military draft.......how do you propose creating this tidal wave of resistence?

With Rush and all of the rest so called conservative talking heads hiding from the COLB issue they have now become part of the MSM old media.

Conservatism needs to find a new, bolder voice to replace these frightened empty shells of greatness.

They’re all turning to inside the beltway media elites.

The reason these newspapers are worthless is because most of them are highly leveraged, with huge debt. You’d have to turn them around quick just to pay the interest, or you wouldn’t own them for long.

Well, we’d then have to massively cut costs - and to re-finance things. But I don’t see those problems as being insurmountable.
