Obama sold himself as a "brand" during the campaign. His comments from his speech today, "we need a "new declaration of independence --- from ideology and small thinking" sounds nothing like Lincoln would have said. He's linking himself to Pres. Lincoln for one simple reason - abolition of slavery. It also reminds black voters and guilt ridden white liberals of "the struggle". That image will stick with people even there are no similarities between the two presidents. It's all about the imagery and brand that you sell to the majority of the population. He and his team are experts.

Very true. Also, every Illinois politician with national aspirations plays up the Lincoln angle. The fact that Lincoln's bicentennial comes up next month made this even more likely.

I am confused.

Is our new presumptive POTUS more like Jesus, Lincoln, Francis of Assisi, JFK, MLK, Jr., Alexander the Great, or just who, exactly?

Calhoun.

However, after listening to NPR over the last few days, I am not so sure anymore. Surely, this Obama fellow must be The Messiah. The hushed and reverential tones they use to describe him lead me to believe that they are burning incense to him in their studios. 24/7.

Lincoln was a great American...I can’t believe you would talk about him this way. He saved the union...and was martyred in the service of his country.
