At the risk of getting booted from FR I will admit though that I think he is much more realistic about the birth certificate issue. It’s over and done and conservatives continuing to grab on to this issue will just make us look like nuts.
Numero uno, why are you slamming FR? We don't have a catechism here that one must solemnly intone at the risk of banishment. That is LGF you're thinking about.
Secondly, while I generally agree with Johnson on the political efficacy of pressing the birth certificate issue, again this is a case of Chuckles protesting far, far too much. Almost no one is paying any attention to the tiny handful of people continuing to discuss Hussein's birth certificate. So why is Chas having shrieking fits over this non-issue? Does he really think that slamming conservatives and conservatism in general over any mis-step undertaken anywhere by any tiny number of self-described conservatives is somehow strengthening the conserative cause? The guy is a totalitarian wannabe, a self-appointed headmaster of the right, whose greatest pleasure is to ostracize folks on the right who fail to think exactly as he does. If he is not a leftist mole then he is an arrogant fool.
Finaly, I think it is accepting the left's propaganda to claim that these or those fringe "conservatives" undermine conservatism in general unless conservatives spend all of their time repudiating whoever the left demands we repudiate. How much time do the leftists spend repudiating ANSWER, ACORN, Ayers, McKinney, Michael Moore, Olbermann, Jimmy Carter, Rev. Wright, the New Black Panthers, World Can't Wait, Revolutionary Communist Party, Socialist Workers Party, Maddow, Randy Rhodes, Ward Churchill, Robert Scheer, etc., etc.?
