How about this? I saw Jeff Bezos in an interview say that the Kindle 2 will hold about 15,000 e-books. Then he quickly pointed out that each e-book will cost $10.00 ( I guess he wanted to reassure publishers). The interviewer didn't pause to point out something rather amazing about these two facts considered together: you could potentially have a Kindle 2 that carried $150,000 worth of books on it! Jeez, that's a serious amount of money. I would think that thieves would find it impossible to resist stealing every one that they could get their hands on.

A $150,000 piece of electronic hardware being carried around town, to the beach, etc.? Insane.

I'm pretty much a tech guy, but $359 for this? Pffft... I'll stick with Audible and the occasional hardcover.

I buy most of my books used from online sources. Why pay a lot of money when I can get decent copies usually for a dollar or less plus media postage. I read them, then sell them on eBay and make my initial cost back. I’ve always been slow to purchase new technology. I guess I’m just old-fashioned that way, and will stick to printed copies at least for now.

You can’t chuck a Kindle at the cat. Well, twice.

Might try one eventually, but right now I like regular books. Even though they take up a lot of space, I like that aspect, too.

I’ll wait for the next big thing. Maybe books will be available on 8-track tape, who knows.

In one hundred years, printed books will still be readable. Books on tape, books on CD, DVD, Kindle, will be like Egyptian heroglyphics, except that like those they’ll be invisible to the naked eye (no devices will exist to read them.) There are examples of this already from the past 20, 30 years. Computer disks, tape cartridges and so on. Good luck, future historians!

I buy and read a bunch of books.
My friend in PA buys and reads a bunch of books.
We get together and swap stacks of books and read all those.
Then I take the stack to work and offer them up to my reading pals. The stack is usually gone within 20 minutes.
They do the same thing throughout the year so I get books that way.
I add those to the stack for my friend in PA.
She passes the ones from me on to her other reading friends...

A good book travels far and provides enjoyment for many.

I just can't imagine that with a kindle.
