We had a census worker knock on our door yesterday. We were only asked one question: are there any other Buildings on the property? (not how many people or any other type of census question). Coincidentially, were in the middle of constructing a garden shed out back, so hubby joked, we’re putting up a shed, we may have to move family in it if the economy gets worse. To which the census worker replied, ‘you have to have faith in OBAMA’ - as she scuttled down the driveway.
Two things bothered us: 1) I was not aware that census workers were allowed to campaign. And 2) it seemed a waste of taxpayer money to hire someone to go door-to-door to hand out a leaflet for the 2010 census in April 2009.
the leaflet we were given was US Census Bureau D-31 (10-0-2008) Census 2010.
If the purpose of the ‘visit’ was to gps front doors, well, it seems they are curious about garden sheds too. What bothered me the most tho, was the campaigning under the flag of the Census Department.
Call the Local Census Office (LCO) and report that remark. They will know which team was in that area at the time and who was assigned your residence.
That is exactly what I said. My daughter said someone came to her door yesterday and just handed her a paper that said the census would be in 2010 and it also said when they came they should have the correct credentials. Nothing that looked like they were GPSing her front door.
