The God players get to play God not just with a few homeless wretches on welfare, they get to play God with whole countries and even whole populations across many countries. The bigger the stage upon which to strut and play God the better, the more souls to save on earth all the more better. While the God Players are doing all of this good, they do even more good by tearing away the chains of nationalism which bind the benighted and enslave them to the nation state; they destroy the state as they destroy the very concept of the nation state.
The film has got it quite right, this is all purposeful. The more distruction the more noble the enterprise. Appealing to their sense of duty, calling them to restore the old order, is utterly useless. Like the Blues Brothers, they are on a mission from God and their provanance is no more credible-because they themselves order the mission.
