Just a reminder that the IAEA has never ever stopped anyone from getting a nuke.
Their job, as they see it, is not to stop anyone from doing anything. Their job is to document it as it happens. And to do that they depend upon the country in question to voluntarily cooperate and self-report.
North Korea developed its first nuke just outside the watchful eyes of the UN inspectors who sat for 8 years watching an abandoned nuclear lab, while a couple of miles down the road the Koreans built a new lab and did all their work there.
Now the Iranians are doing more or less the same. They build their labs. The IAEA writes a lot of letters. The empty suits in Washington say there is nothing to worry about because they are a couple of years away from building a nuke. And then, of course, once its built, they’ll say there is nothing they can do, because Iran has a nuke.
