In this TV post we take a look at NBC's newest summer offering-"The Listener". The main character's cute and has ESP. But does this make a hit show?

Also, HGTV's $250,000 challenge where families win even if they lose. It's fun and on a subject ALL females are concerned about.

BravoTV's The Fashion Show reality contest continues on and it intrigues. But a "jock" look with fringes on stockings?

Finally, Dancing With Stars sexy Marini has new role and how did Kris Allen really win American Idol 2009?

All I’m waiting for this new television season are the return of:

Eureka

Castle

Leverage

Dollhouse

Superior writing that does not insult my intelligence. Fluid editing, pacing and casts that put most of television’s other fare to shame.

Since ‘Burn Notice’ has begun its new season, it’s off the list.

Jack.

Hi, Fishtalk.

First of all, none of the shows I mentioned are on Bravo.

‘Eureka’ is on the Sci-Fi Cnannells suxccess stories. The premise of the show is simple. The US did not give up on cutting-edge technology after WWII and a town in the Pacific Northwest was created and filled with egg-heads, geniuses and savants to keep the US well beyond that cutting edge.

Enter a US Marshal and his teen-aged daughter into this idyllic, self-contained and government sponsored (Through a high tech corporation called Global Dynamics) and a great fish-out-of-water story begins to emerge.

‘Eureka’ has had two seasons already mostly dealing with the town’s better not messed with secrets and past, forgotten projects. The cast is mostly unknown, but are more than up to the task of drama, comedy and well executed special effects.

‘Castle’ was an early summer replacement from ABC that stars Nathan Fillion (’Malcolm Reynolds, of ‘Firefly’ and ‘Serenity’) as Richard Castle, a best-selling author in the Stephen King/Robert Parker mode, who is aked by a detective in the NYPD to assist on cases.

The detective, Kate Beckett is played by Stana Kacik, (’Quantum of Solace’ and ‘The Spirit’) who’s determined, gutsy, easy on the eyes and backed up by an Hispanic and Irish underlings, who are there for more than comic relief. The murders investigated are complex and not overly-gory.

Castle is divorced, a single dad with a 15 year old daughter
and shares his up-scale apartment with his mother. The chemistry between the three is refreshing, as is his relationship with Det. Beckett.

‘Leverage’ is from TNT and stars Timothy Hutton as a former high end insurance investigator, who asquired a team of thieves to take on large corporations that have messed over ‘the little people’.

The team of thieves include two women, a grifter and a eccentric art thief and two men. An ultra-hacker and an indestrutable strong arm man. Grifter, Hitter, Hacker, Thief.

Plots are not that complicated, but worth the trip. Presented very well in an almost Mamet fashion. With Hutton taking a back seat so his team can shine in their own areas.

Secondary characters have cropped up from Hutton’s previous, ‘Nero Wolf Mysteries’ series from Bravo’s and A&E’s infancy and always add something new to the mix.

‘Dollhouse’ is Joss Whedon’s latest offering that wasn’t killed right away by FOX.

The premise is cool. An entity called ‘The Dollhouse’ can erase memories and implant the memories, tics and quirks of others into selected ‘Dolls’. A smoking hot party girl one night. An asthmatic hostage negotiator a few hours later.

Yet there’s much more to this series that meets the eye and that’s where the fun begins. The cast are mostly unknowns, outside of Ms. Dushku, but all have managed to evolve during the show’s first season. As with all Whedon projects, attention must be paid throughout, for many seemingly throwaway lines have grave meaning later on.

Hope this helps.

Jack.
