A draft agenda posted for next Monday's (July 13th) Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting includes a public hearing at 6 p.m. for the expansion of the Islamic Saudi Academy, outside Fairfax off Pope's Head Road.
The expansion was the subject of a long, contentious public hearing at the county Planning Commission meeting on March 18. Supporters of ISA packed the room, heckling opponents who motioned the controversial nature of the school. The planning commissioners unanimously approved the plan last month, despite the background of the school and concerns from neighbors about parking and quality of life issues.
The Academy, funded by the government of Saudi Arabia, has been the subject of controversy due to textbooks with bigoted passages towards Jews and Christians. The former head of the school was arrested last year on charges of covering up the molestation of a young girl. A 1999 valedictorian of ISA was arrested and charged with a plot to assassinate former President George W. Bush. Others associated with ISA have been arrested for suspicion of terror plots. US Rep. Frank Wolf has written seven letters to the State Department to investigate the textbooks used at the school. All seven letters have gone unanswered. (see below for past coverage)
Despite these warning signs, county supervisors have sided with the school, as have the planning commissioners on this recent request to expand the Fairfax campus. These government officials have also slandered citizens who dared to speak in opposition to the extremist nature of the school.

I’ll support this when the Saudis reciprocate. A Christian American Academy in Riyadh. Or Dammam.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. What I meant to say was we need voices to oppose the expansion of this school. I hit the post button to quick.
Of course I was being a bit of a smart-aleck.
But it does annoy me to see an Islamic Saudi Academy here when the Saudis have no intention of reciprocating, and allowing an “American Christian Academy” in the kingdom.
There are of course expat schools there, but never anything explicitly Christian or Jewish or any other religion either. We allow mosques to be built here freely, because thats the way we are. They will never reciprocate and allow the building of a church or synogogue, or have not so far.
I think we need to start calling them on it. If we are friends, big “if” of course, then toleration must go both ways. If they want the protection of the civilized world likewise then toleration should go both ways.
In the case of this school, in general I hate “nimbys” who won’t let anyone do anything with their own property. But I would make the point that they are asking for toleration and freedom that they do not grant to anyone else.
Exactly right. What is apparent to me also, is the outright favoritism the ISA is getting from the county, when Christian schools have had similar requests turned down.
People will not believe in nothing. While demorats work to stamp out Christianity and love of country, Islam fills the void.
