Also, that should be evokes, rather than invokes.

Well...... politically speaking it was not unconditional surrender because Hirohito was allowed to keep his throne though he had to renounce his `divinity’.

MacArthur astutely showed respect to the Emperor and this greatly facilitated Japanese acceptance of defeat and occupation.

Obama woiuld be amazed to know that it was MacArthur who paid a visit to Hirohito, resulting in that famous photograph showing the enormous difference in their heights.

Would not be a stretch to characterize MacArthur thus:

“People of Japan! I’ve deprived you of your divine Emperor, but I’m giving you another. Me!”
