We had a wild dog problem one summer on the farm in about ‘87. Didn’t go anywhere without a rifle. That approach ended up solving the problem as well. Wild dogs are a far, far bigger problem than coyotes.

In the 1940s, a man was elected mayor of an Indiana town on the single platform issue of him personally shooting the dangerous pack dogs in the area. He won, overwhelmingly, and was perhaps the only politician, before or since, to have kept his campaign promises.
The townspeople were so relieved to be rid of the pack dogs, that they wrote him in on the ballots in the next election to be the town judge and police chief over the two man police department as well.

They're a major problem in our neck of the woods, and getting worse. Too many folks giving up their “pets” by simply releasing them in rural areas. One pack passed through my property the other morning. 6-8 dogs about 60 lbs. each. Looked to be a mix of foxhound and pitbull. Filthy and starving. Nobody around here goes for a walk unless armed with heavy staff, bear mace, and/or sidearm. Seems like not a day goes by without seeing some poor starved and half dead pitbul staggering along the side of the road. It breaks the heart, but you don't dare stop and pick it up. No collar/tags could also mean no vaccination against rabies.

decide what to do with them, said Jim Fullington, special agent for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation."
WTF is wrong with people? What is there to decide?
