Obamacare: So, It's NOT Our Body, Our Choice?
08-19-09 | Reaganesque

Posted on 08/19/2009 2:51:57 PM PDT by Reaganesque

Here’s a thought:

For years the Left has told us regarding abortion that women have the unassailable right to do with their body as they please. “Our bodies, Our Choice,” right? Now that the Left is demanding that the government be given control of our healthcare, does this mean that they no longer believe in this supposed right? If the government can tell us, as Mr. Obama himself suggested, to take pills instead of having an operation, doesn’t that violate this “sacred” right the Left has insisted on so vehemently? If the medical procedure of abortion is a right, then why not grandma’s cancer surgery? Surely grandma has a right to do with her body as she pleases regardless of the societal repercussions, right?

TOPICS: Society
KEYWORDS: abortion; choice; healthcare; obama
Consistency has never been the Left's strong point. And that's to be expected when a group has situational ethics that change with the weather. So, it shouldn't be surprising that the Left is now contradicting one of its allegedly "sacred" principle of Choice.

I've wondered why this argument hasn't been brought up, right along with privacy issues

Exactly! How many times have you heard the term “we don’t want to get between a patient and her doctor”?

Now they’re falling over themselves to do exactly that.

The slippery slope started with HillaryCare and more recently RomneyCare. It’s all the culture of death.

It’s all the culture of death.

Sad but true.

Funny that the same people who were against listening to overseas calls to or from terrorist citing privacy concerns are all too willing to turn over their most private information to Washington for "free" medical care though.

Yup. A few weeks ago in one of the threads on here I brought up the “keep your laws off my body” used by abortion proponents, and why wouldn’t that same phrase be appropriate to this ‘reform’ situation.

I think it is a quite valid point to throw in their faces.

I've often referred to myself as pro-choice, on guns.

I’ve been asking this for a couple of months...why aren’t the rest of us extended the same rights as pregnant women?

Excellent, Reaganesque. so very nice to see you again.

The problem with Americans and our laws today is lack of CONSISTENCY.

Americans (individuals) want what they want and don’t consider liberty and choice.

I’ve said this for years now.

The left’s (and sometimes the right’s) consistency is what what they want only.

What a timely post. I have been arguing with my sister over healthcare. She believes something must be done due to our impending national disaster caused by “aging population and change of demographics”.
For the good of the country we, our country, will need to make difficult choices concerning the elderly. I was going to suggest in our next dialogue that “lack of choice for the elderly should be matched with lack of choice for those pregnant. Would not a population boom solve some of this problem?”
It is not worth it talking to one another over HC. She will not change her mind, I will not change my mind.

I was just saying the same thing on another thread...

In fact on health care we should recycle all of the old feminist "government hands of my body" "force" "rape" rhetoric... it will drive the left nuts!
