Ron Paul is a loon. He sure is. That's why he inspired some of the next slate of Congressional candidates to run for office. That's why his Audit the Fed bill has over 200 co-sponsors and put the issue on the map. That's why all those Tea Parties were a direct result from his campaign.

Uh, Paul has mentioned this and supports returning to the gold standard.
Or did you really believe he supported bartering or hauling around heavy gold coins in your pocket?
