... and then a group of Yanks showed up who *didn’t know who Stonewall Jackson was*!

That's just pitiful. A year or so ago, I was talking to a GERMAN tourist up on the Hill, and when he found out I lived in Chancellorsville (y'all shoulda stopped by, I'd've fed you) went into paeans of praise for Stonewall as the greatest/most honorable American ever. I tried to make a case for Marse Robert or Thomas Jefferson but he was adamant.

Thanks! I should have pinged you.

It was just my husband and Bill on this trip, and they only stopped for a half hour. If I head up that way, though, I’ll be sure to let you know.

Thomas Jefferson wouldn’t get my vote, either.

I'd have to go with Marse Robert over T.J. myself -- but then he had many more years in which to demonstrate his greatness.

"I fought for ol' Marse Robert, for four years nearabout,
Got wounded in two places, and starved at Point Lookout.
I got the rheumatism, a'campin' in the snow,
But I killed a heap of Yankees, and I'd like to kill some mo'."
