My Michigan site is filled with tons of information and pictures of raptors provided by its members.........
For example, falconry is probably one the of the heaviest regulated activities in the country. In Michigan, only 24 "specific" raptor chicks per year are allowed to be taken by licensed falconers and those permits are only available via a lottery.....
Fascinating stuff......
Killing for killing sake is not my thing. I dont think this is something to be pleased with.
Cool but I don’t think those were 120+ lb grey wolves the birds were taking.
That is when the hunters send in two birds.
In some of the ceremonial, celbratory gatherings they do turn small pups loose...but these pictures are mostly of hunting and these animals range from 30-40 pound coyote- like animals, up to 70+ lbs full grown wolves.
I live in the intermountain area in Idaho where we recently started hunting wolves again (this year) and I believe two of these raptors, with their massive and very strong talons would take down a timber wolve here in the states weighing 90-100 lbs., and probably do it without much problem
In eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania they run over them with cars. Ever tried that? Season lasts year round.
No, these are not large 100lb+ timber and gray wolves. They are the wolves of the mongolian steppe. But I believe two of these birds would take down a large gray wolve like we have here in Idaho...and do it without much problem. Those talons are very large and very strong.
I suspect those wolves ended up on the grill
These people live a culture where their goat herds provide their food and clothing. They kill wolves to protect their livelihood...and to provide fur.
Not done "for killing sake," in the least, any more than western ranchers here in the US kill wolves just fro the sake of killing them.
Hot dogs?
They hunt them that way in western Ohio and Michigan, too.
That’s why we have brush guards on the front of our trucks!
One time coming back from the camp I passed a whole deer massacre
along I-10 west of San Antonio. Must have been a dozen dead deer in a row.
Some deer are emo and suicidal I guess.
I guess if you can't appreciate the uniqueness of this probaby centuries old tradition in a country hidden in the mountains on the other side of the world then no amount of explanation in today's terms will make it clear for you........
Wow!
I read about hunting with a golden eagle in a Dorothy Dunnett novel but thought it was just an exaggeration.
Here in Idaho, I am not aware of this happening with wolves. The wolves are larger, and the eagles smaller than those there. I do know that some eagles have killed mountain goats (not Big Horn sheep) here in Idaho the same way they are depicted doing it in Mongolia on youtube.
See my post 30. A culture adapted and has been protecting their herds for centuries or more by trining and using the predators at hand. Pretty neat.
Go for it! Before Obama takes all your $

I know they'll fight over carrion but, can't see the eagle winning here in the states.
