Last year, I wanted to seperate myself from my husband’s work provided plan, get a high deductible plan, open an HSA and receive the matching funds my employer would toss into it...but it made hubby too nervous to have me off the reservation.

I think this whole HCR debacle has given that plan even more of a shine. Hopefully it will still be available after next year.

I’ve really been receptive to the argument of decoupling insurance from employers. I think it would help solve a couple of problems like cost and portability. When you have increased portability, you have fewer people who fall out of insurance and then can’t get recovered for pre-existing conditions. Makes some real sense to me!

We have had an HSA for a few years and we love it. Work offered it a couple of years and now probably won’t for next year. I, too, don’t understand why it is not promoted more and/or taken advantage of by employers offering insurance.
