This program will not clash with other programs that were pre installed on the system such as McAfee, will it?
Thanks everyone for your help this morning.
It probably has to do with your Dell back up software. It’s not serious but there’s a good explanation here;
(scroll down the page where you will find a fix)

I recently had a virus (trojan, apparently) my antivirus software couldn’t detect. Nor did Spybot.
Microsoft has a Malicious Software Removal Tool that found and purged the malware.
Highly recommended.
I directed you to the 32 bit version of the Malicious software Removal Tool. There’s a link to the 64 bit version, if you need that, in the Overview on that page.

combofix is good, very good...i reccomend that and also ‘asquared’ . i’m a pc technician and those are always ready to go on my usb stick in my small jean pocket in the front....you’ll be ok after those 2 programs.
btw turn off system restore, thats where viruses stay resident/hide. for the most effective scan, foolproof: turn system restore off, reboot into safe mode. open asquared, or make sure you can see the combofix icon. ctrl-alt-del and kill the explorer.exe process, so you have no menu at the bottom. -then- run the programs that were listed. you’ll be clean in no time.
malware antibytes is also noteworthy.
good luck...freepmail me if you get stuck..i do this for a living.
“btw turn off system restore, “
Terrible advice.
“Running Vista Home Premium”
I think I see your problem!!
really?!? so you want that to give that virus a resident hiding spot right.
good logic.
btw kirkwood, i was awe insprired by your step by step instructions on how solve the problem. quite a big post!
don’t troll me and trust me, i’m waiting for you response so i can continue to tell you how detrimental system restore is to a pc. some of us don’t need it cuz our pc’s don’t get infected but im assuming it’s come in handy more than once for you.
what could be better than 2 gigs of hard drive history that YOU CANT DELETE...eh man? yeah sys restore is the bomb......
reply anytime you want, i’m here ;)
LOL!
rofl, lol..etc.
explain to me how having system restore on when scanning for virii is actually helpful.
with a very very clean system, sure, use it. but c’mon, quit the AOL acronymns and explain to me how system restore should be activated when cleaning that pesky virus.
the floor is all yours, smart guy.
