You can't blame the phrase "Compassionate Conservatism" for where we are today.
The only thing that Compassionate conservatism did was the Prescription drug bill that shifted drug insurance to Medicare and away from big company retirement plans.
What "Compassionate Conservatism" did NOT do was:
- Start the war on terrorism and the resultant spending. Terrorists did that.
- Cause the banking crisis. Greed, repeal of Glass-Steagall, failure to address and regulate derivative products and bank use of those products, failure to stop the abuses of the credit card industry, and failure to stop the abuses of the mortgage industry did that. None of those can be laid at the feet of Compassionate conservatism.
- Get Obama elected. Division in Republican ranks, attacks by RINO's such as Romney on true conservatives, and mediocre candidates, state, electoral, congressional and judicial officials unwilling to check Obama's eligibility, did that.
- Cause the lost of manufacturingGreed, Nixon's normalization of trade with China, and Free Trade policies with countries that don't share our philosophies did that.

Loss of manufacturing - fascist (i.e., control of business) regulations building over a century, including allowing communist-based unions to do what they want and demand (as all commies do) more money for less work.
“Workers” basically caused their own demise.
