The government backing out of private industry is the only thing that is going to have long term benefits. There more they regulate and then make fixes to the regulation messes, the more tangled and broken the situation becomes (in more areas than just health care).

That is nice as a statement of Libertarian ideology, it is factually incorrect.

Anarchy works only as theory not in fact. Govt is the way we organize our civilization. It has a role in preventing force fraud and abuse. It also is the referee that manages conflict between citizens. Both have a role in any health care system.

For example. Currently government prevents you from buying health care across state lines. One simple fix the Republicans are advocating is portability, Remove the regulations that prevents you from buying any health care plan you wish.

Another thing Govt can do is expand Health Savings Accounts and move the tax break business get from offering health care to the individual.

Then the obvious solution of medical malpractice reform is something only Govt can do since it regulates the courts.

Talking about portability is exactly what I am talking about. The Feds make up rules that ultimately don’t work and then have to make up new ones to fix problems which again produce unintended consequences. Protability should never have been an issue in the first place.

There is civil recourse to many of the issues that the mountains of regulations try to address that work better than those regulations.

Sometimes the referees cause more injustice than the combatants.

I am enjoying the conversation though. ;-)
