Especially, since he has no way of knowing if what the soldiers tell him is real, is conjecture, is embellished - he is not there to “record” these bad things! He is supposed to listen to them and help them THROUGH these feelings, not have them relive the entire stressful situation.

Starting an investigation with the preconceived notion that his name is NOT important is WORSE than starting an investigation WITH it.
