It's not like anyone outside of Chicago, and then only the South Side, had heard of BHO before 2004. He was a rinky dink state Senator who specialized in voting "present". Someone in Illinois would have of course heard of him in 2004 sometime since he was elected to US senator that year, and a few elsewhere might have remembered that he gave a speech as the 'Rat convention that summer *as a candidate for Senator* (which seems pretty unusual)

Remember this is "Zero", no history, no background except what he wants us to see. And we are to like it!
