I have no idea what you just said. I ... feel ... so ... old.
I am not the poster who said what you have no idea about, but I am probably older (and possibly better looking) than you are. I do have some suggestions: just download a linux distribution to your hard drive and "burn" it to a CD. Yes, a single CD. Then load it into any computer's CD drive and boot the machine, select the option to boot temporarily from the CD drive, and you can test drive the linux distribution without installing it on your hard drive. My reply to the original poster has more information about suggested linux distributions for downloading. Enjoy both Windows and Linux and have a Merry Christmas.

Netbooks don’t come with a CD, I installed the distro from a Flash Drive, you have to go into the BIOS and change the boot order so that it will boot from the flash drive, but it’s pretty straightforward.
