They were disarmed by the government a long time ago before the Shah. Only the police and the military had weapons when I was there in the 70’s. As a member of the US Military, we were not permitted to be issued weapons but were able to buy our own through the Rod and Gun Club at the US Military compound.
Unbelievable!! I feel so fortunate to have been one of the youths who traveled across South Asia in 1972. Long story, but I was not a hippy. Stupid, but not a hippy.
Men in Turkey, and Afghanistan carried weapons openly, everywhere. You’d be brain dead not to learn how dangerous their lives are.
Wish we could get weapons to those protesters!!!
