Home defence is mesured in feet 25 or less.
At that range a shotgun has a pattern measured in inches not feet.
Add in a moving target a bit of excitment and a shotgun is far from a sure thing.

Are you a myth buster? Everyone knows a shotgun will kill every living thing within a ten foot circle at 10 feet. After all, we have seen it on TV. :0)

Like I said Whatever you buy, youll only be as good as you practice. You don't usually sight aim a shotgun at this distance so point and shoot is about it. I don't even have a sight on mine. If you practice a little, you can get the point quickly. Another posted recommended a 20 gauge which for a novice or light weight person seems a good idea to me. 12 gauge is not really needed for human varmints.
