Over the last year a fascination with vampires has reached a fevered pitch as books, movies, and TV shows about them have inundated our culture and invaded our schools and homes. Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series is perhaps the best known example. This is a series of four books (two of which have already been made into movies) that tell the story of 18-year-old Isabella “Bella” Swan and her relationship with Edward Cullen, a 104-year-old vampire whose “eternal age” is 17.

So, knowing NOTHING about the topic, the author has decided to write an article bashing the series.
Next up, the Author will enlighten the world about Global Warming, Global Cooling, the dangers of Nuclear Power and how Obama really is the messiah.

On the web site “Television Without Pity”, which is an arm of the TV industry, but which has some hilarious and biting recaps of many of the TV shows, they have a feature where a guy writes up recaps about TV shows without watching them. It’s pretty funny.
MY opinion:
Vampires have always represented evil.Hollywood is subliminally trying to excuse evil(unless it’s a Christian) by explaining their behavior in humanistic terms while portraying the vampire(evil) as victim of circumstance.
So, if virtuous people get turned into vampires against their will, they have to be evil?
Or, put another way, if virtuous people are caught from behind and turned into soulless vampires without redemption, then it must be God's will??
Ah but then vampires don't exist, so no contradiction!

The author also said...
“I freely admit I have not read any of these books or watched the movies based on them. Nor have I read or watched any of the other vampiric offerings currently flooding the marketplace; nor do I intend to.
“I realize that admission will cause some to ignore what I am about say, arguing that it is irresponsible to assert that consuming them is dangerous and harmful to one’s spiritual well being.
“That is their prerogative. Nevertheless, I have read enough reviews on these vampire stories to gain an understanding of the spirit behind them – and it is not the Holy Spirit.”
Just to keep the facts straight.
It depends on how they choose to conduct their continued existence.
A vampire must survive by drinking the blood of others. In so doing, the vampire creates harm, by either causing the death of those he attacks, or by turning them into vampires.
If my only means of survival involves the deaths of innocents, then I have a duty to avoid harm to innocents even at the cost of my own life (or un-life).
However, if the proposed vampire can survive without harm to innocent humans (for example, by drinking the blood of animals, which would be no more evil than eating meat), then the vampire does not commit moral wrong.
To make a claim like that, without reading anything other than what some other people have said, is simply inane, ignorant and makes the author sound stupid.
If the author had bothered to either read, or watch the story he critiqued, he'd realize this is a story about RESTRAINT. The evil Vampire restrains his natural tendancies; and in doing so becomes a damned soul reaching for salvation. Just as the Natural Man is an enemy to God, we must through repentance and self-control strive to be like Christ. This is the story about a family of creatures, with almost God-like capabilities, willfully restraining their natural impulses, and in doing so finds peace, love and understanding.
No, definitely no spritural message there ... (sigh)...
Go stare googly-eyed at your Twilight Poster, wrap yourself in your Edward blankie and, hug your Twilight action figures tightly you’ll feel better.
So it’s not an auto-evil thing like everyone thinks.
I suppose thinking of his victims as cattle, doesn’t give them the OK with drinking human blood.
Vampires have been moving away from being always evil for a long long time. Starting with the comedy Love at First Bite, continuing on through the excellent TV show Forever Knight, and then beginning the turn towards romantic figures with Ann Rice’s Lestat series, and now a mormon in Scottsdale has turned them Emo.
One definition of evil could be that you have no problem harming others in order to achieve a benefit to yourself.
You are assuming something that isn’t true. I’m not a Twilight fan - I’m just not a fan of an ignoramous posing as an authority figure.
Saw the first movie, haven’t seen the second. Read the first book - being a guy; I was somewhat bored. Just not my fare - but when some self-righteous ignoramous starts making declarations about something he knows nothing about- I have no problem calling him on it.
So, instead of focusing your energy on the topic; why do you attack me? Seems like you are making this a personal attack, instead of a reasoned thought.
According to that definition, war is evil.
