He engineered the GOP take-over of Congress in 1994 and dragged Clinton far enough right to institute sensible, meaningful welfare reform. I gather you're one of these folks who thinks support of free trade makes one a globalist. I suggest Smith's Wealth of Nations as a cure for that malady.

He engineered the GOP take-over of Congress in 1994..." Sorry, no he did no such thing. The one person largely responsible for the turnover of congress in '94 was Rush Limbaugh. Few people even knew who Newt was until his name started popping up in '95 after he was elected speaker.
Newt was responsible for sabotaging the Republican takeover by torpedoing all efforts at reversing the damage, such as blocking the defunding of the UN, and the reworking of PBS for example. We could have erased Headstart, and salvaged millions of inner city families that have been undermined by that mess, not to mention the billions in funding for that garbage, but Newt stood in the way.
