I tell my boys that I will not pay for a BA UNLESS they are going to be a teacher.
They will both get BSs in some science (math, biology, physics, engineering, computers etc) that will teach them a shill and assist them later in life.
Degrees in business, english, history, languages and arts are a waste of time and money....
If they don’t want to go to college, they get to go into the service...
shill = skill
Yep! Those dirty rotten thieving (MF’er) bastards! That’s THEM!
You have no idea...how many times I have said that very thing.
I went to school with a few folks...that had no idea what the "going rate" was for our chosen occupation.
Ticks me off to no end when the state teachers wring their hands about their pay rate. Geesh...you didn't know that when you started going to school?
RANT OFF
Those were just my FEDERAL taxes .... the State of Illinois took another $4k in State Income Taxes and another $7,500 in property taxes. That's not counting what I pay in SALES TAXES every damn' time I try and buy anything!
It's downright shameful what these lousy bastards are doing with MY money ....
It’s not the actual amount....both, all or any of the exhorbitant amounts that can be cited are excessive. We are on the same side.
BTW....I like that tag line.....
...where we will teach them business, English (not english), history, and foreign languages if they want to advance in rank.

I think the problem is the idea that you go to college to “find yourself”. Good grief, you can “find yourself” at community college for $1100 a semester.
If you’re paying for a degree — have a plan. Know why you’re there, what skills you want to leave with, where you’re going, and what your options will be when you get out. If you’re going to grad school/med school/ law school — know why you’re going there specifically, and what you want to do with the additional knowledge.
I have several degrees, so I’m not as anti-college as some around here seem to be — but don’t just go because its something to do after high school. Make the expenditure a worthwhile investment. Don’t spend $150K to become a Jr. College Professor, social worker, or high school teacher. If you want to be one of those things, fine — find a cheaper way. Really, the only reason you should be spending six figures on an education is if you’re going to be a doctor or a lawyer.

FRegards,
If I had a kid I’d make friends with a plumber and try to get them in the union...
Just as a counter point when I was a young PFC in the US ARMY in 1983, I made about $693 a month and always had $200-300 in my pocket. Now nearly 30 yrs later and two degrees under my belt, I’m lucky to have half that much in liquid assets (never mind counting off for inflation and depreciation) LOL
I took a similar route, with a different outcome.
Enlisted USAF at 19. Electronics field. Annual salary $13k.
Got out at 24, starting salary $23k/yr.
Didn’t use the GI Bill, and instead spent my time and money on Microsoft certifications.
At 26, I was making $75k/yr.
Never went back to school, but moved into computer security, earned even more certifications.
I crossed the 6-figure salary mark at age 29.
I only have a high school diploma. If school were free, it wouldn’t be worth my time. I have young kids, and spend all my free time with them.
My wife has a masters in Aerospace engineering and is the same age. At present, I earn 1.5 times her salary.
Good on you!......Actual ‘work’ pays [for those who choose to try it] ....BTW...I hope you don’t laud your salary over your wife’s salary....that wouldnt end well... been there, done that and it ended up costing me a half a mil.....
Perfect....
IMO, a four year degree has almost become as common as a HS diploma. During my last semester, when I was basically working full-time, and I assisted underclassmen with basic economics (micro, macro). All I have to say is that there were some people who had no business being in college that were “processed” and graduated with a degree that I had to earn.
yep
Your’s ain’t so bad either..
