I think this will backfire on them.

There are no centralized leaders in this grsssroots movement. If they choose to pick on individuals, it will only galvanize the TEA party further.

There has been an effort to identify TEA party leaders by the media, but they are looking for something that doesn’t exist.

In our county, we just started a Tea Party group, and even though I am not the main organizer, I am known for helping out as a Republican. I just now got audited by the city finance office regarding payment of local taxes (a percentage of revenue, not income tax) for no known reason, except you just know that they hoped there could be screaming headlines "Local Republican leader delinquent in taxes!!!!" Except that, unlike the Democrat insiders, I don't act like the rules don't apply to me, and I in fact have always been current.

Auditing a business for these taxes is a rare event and not undertaken unless there is a big company with obvious non-compliance. Local CPAs I have talked with are actually astonished that they are capable of such an act. The city made up a lame reason like "we always select a few people to audit just to keep in practice when we have big cases to go after."

I have made sure to tell everyone I know that this is how left-wing Big Government works -- Not by openly criticizing your ideas but by trying to personally destroy you. Just like the Clinton strategy.
