I'm wondering if there is any advantage to going to the county caucuses. I've never gone to one before and don't want to waste my time if there is nothing good that can come of it.
However, I don't want to miss an opportunity or close any doors that can't be re-opened.
Any advise on what goes on at a county caucus meeting and what advantages there might be for those who attend?

I have never been to a County Caucus. However, I live in Dane County...home to ‘The People’s Republik of Madistan,’ don’t ‘cha know, LOL!
We’re moving North or we’re moving South as soon as the old dogs and the parents die off. (Think I’m kidding?) ;)

The one that I’m considering going to is in St. Croix county (right across the river from the Twin Cities in MN). The caucus is tomorrow morning at 10AM.

I went to one in Oklahoma years ago, it was the biggest goat rope I’ve ever seen. I came away thinking that most people shouldn’t be allowed to vote let alone discuss politics...but that’s just my one experience.

Well, if you think it’ll help! It’s pretty BLUE up there, too...and then we have all of those rabid Minnesotans crossing the WI border to vote, vote, and vote again!
Is Sean Duffy going to be there? Doesn’t that area belong to Obey? Or am I way off?

I’m hoping I can help make the Republican party redder than it is. I’m sick of choosing between Socialist and Socialist Lite.
We need some real choices for a change.

Just something we say in this part of the world, I guess you’d define it as indicating confusion and lack of organization.
I attended my caucus (in January here in CT) ... suggestions?
1. Keep your expectations low on what can be accomplished in a few hours of caucusing.
2. Staying away from caucuses accomplishes nothing.
3. Jot down names and numbers of interesting people you meet.
Real change will come to this country when those caucuses are jammed with people. If they haven’t gotten fed up yet, what will it take?
How do you think the liberals got control of the Republican party? Because they were the ones who went to the caucuses.
How did the Marxists get control of the Democrat party? Because they are the ones who go to the caucuses.

I went to ours this last weekend, and it was definitely worth it!
Not that I was looking to get into the system, but there was a total vacuum for our precinct. So I ended up as the acting Precinct Chairman. Almost wound up running the entire combined caucus meeting (we had a total of 12 people for 6 precincts).
It all falls back to a couple things I learned from a good friend and a great mentor:
1. When in charge, take charge.
2. If no one else is in charge, take charge.
It probably didn’t hurt that the caucus was at the County Chair’s house...
Well, how did it go Sopater? Sorry, haven’t been on FR for a while. All the GOP blind faithful around here tend to bum me out and I’m staying away more and more.
Mostly, I'm disappointed and I left early.
The meeting began with a short speech by WI gubernatorial candidate Bill Ingram. Bill really didn't impress me much and seems like he's in favor of feeding class wars between the “criminally rich” and the “working poor”. He's also apparently on the “green environment” bandwagon.
Anyway, we moved to strategies for the various elections and the point that was driven home to me was the need for volunteers since Dems are bad and Repubs are good. It seemed that the best thing that the St. Croix GOP felt that they had going for them was that they were not the Dems.
They told stories of the things they “used to do” and offered explanations as to why we don't anymore, which were primarily attributed to lack of organization and volunteers.
They looked for ways to get the message out to young people who don't read newspapers and don't own land lines.
We pointed out to the group that people already know who the GOP is, and they're not interested in Party, but Issues. They need to clearly state their stance on the issues and then follow up that statement consistently with action.
Lots of people nodded their heads in agreement, but I don't think it had much effect.
Then, they moved to the vote on party resolutions. Evidently, the resolutions had been posted on the website, but the site was down and no one knew that they were there. They didn't have enough copies for everyone, so we had to listen to a guy who probably worked in the past as an auctioneer try to go through the resolutions that everyone was to vote on.
It was clear that everyone unanimously agreed on everything and nothing was going to be discussed or debated, so we decided to leave after about 15 minutes of that.
We did meet a nice couple who is working hard with the tea-party movement and are deeply involved with helping out. I believe that the man I spoke with had been invited to speak at the “take back the tea-party” in Eau Claire that is planned for this Sunday from 1-3PM (I intend to be there).
Anyway, that about sums it up... it was a very disappointing morning in Hudson, WI.

I hear that! I live outside of ‘The People’s Republik of Madistan.’ We don’t have caucuses.
I’m not giving up all hope for our state. I think Scott Walker WILL be our next governor. I think T. Wall has a good chance of unseating Feingold, especially after this newest twist in the healthcare abortion.
Do what you can with what you have where you are. We hearty souls will survive. ;)
Thanks for the update Sopater. We saw Ingram at a Tea Party planning meeting in Eau Claire. Not sure why he’s a Republican...or even why he calls himself conservative in that he clearly has a socialist mindset. His desire to hit the wealthy was evident to us as well. I think he’s confused.
