I tend to agree. I don’t want government controlled media but I don’t want ANY government controlling our media.

Bad. Very bad. The Saudis are not our “friends.”

Isn’t this just a purchase of public stock on the open market? How would his 5% stake have any more influence than say, an institutional purchaser who also own 5% in the operations? A 5% stake is a 5% stake, same voting rights as all other stockholders.

It's obviously bad, but FoxNews (NewsCorp) ownership by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal only comes to 7%+- and that's not enough to shape the news.

BTW, his holdings are still second in size to those of the Murdoch family.

That one sentence you quoted gives very, very little information as to what this full article really states...

Do we have a choice in the matter?

The next step is a Saudi TV channel in the USA (by satellite). That’s why Alwaleed wants this blending of USA/Saudi media interests.

I can’t wait for the Hamas childrens’ shows to come here. Actors in disney-style stuffed animal costumes rail against the Jews after their fellow stuffed animals are killed by Israeli bombs. These huge “stuffed animals” sob while their stuffed-animal brothers die on hospital gurneys.

You can’t make this stuff up. Here’s my favorite Hamas TV segments for children.....

They are just buying into solid companies in order to unload their soon to be worthless dollars.

We should look around the world and see if any other nations allow foreign nationals to own a significant percentage of a major news outlet.

I am guessing there are few if any.

Same goes for farmland. I have never understood why we would allow foreign nationals to own huge blocks of farmland.

We just keep shooting holes in our foot...won’t be standing much longer if we keep it up.
