Sandra Bullock also made history as the first woman to win the Razzies as worst actress and best actress at the Oscars. The odds alone are astronomical.

My immediate reaction to Hurt Locker was disgust. I certainly didn't see it as “conservative” at all. It appeared to me is was transparently replaying the Vietnam myth of the irreparably damaged and ruined vet.

So between Cameron's Avatar which is a glammed up sci-fi anti-american anti-military smear vs Hurt Locker which is a ripoff of a guy's true story but spun to do another hit piece on our military, I'd say that hollyweird is still consistent at spinning crap this year.
imho it was either mega-crap (Avatar) or crap lite (Hurt Locker) to get the awards and crap lite won as the lesser of the 2 evils.

I did not see Hurt Locker but Avatar didn’t deserve to be considered for a best picture. It was fun and the 3D effects were amazing but it really was nothing more than a decent movie wrapped up in ground-breaking special effects. The story underneath the glitz just wasn’t that great. I don’t get to many films but the one I liked the best was District 9. Had that as an in-flight film on Qantas and it was fantastic.

There was absolutely nothing PATRIOTIC in the Hurt Locker.....did this fool even watch it....
Here we have a EOD Team Leader supposedly in Iraq who is a compulsive addictive personality who is an Adrenalin Junkie???!!! He constantly puts his men in danger. Then once he returns home to America He abandons his wife and kids so that he can go back to Iraq and get his “Drug”.
Disgusting.

Suddenly, patriotism is fashionable and glamorous among the Hollywood libs...
It’s the new Kabbalah.

Actually I liked Avatar much more. Hurt locker put me to sleep, even with the explosions.

If people want to watch a less than stellar resolution of "Hurt Locker", it's playing on a loop on this
channelIt's half way through right now.....FWIW.

We enjoyed Hurt Locker very much, and were glad it won Best Picture.

Both are just movies. Both are pretty good movies. As far as a man making a decision to return to a war zone when he has a family that is a tough one.
I made that choice a couple of times. His wife knew what he did for a living. Every combat vet knows the call of war. Going back with that other family is a very real pull on your heart and soul. I don't think the metrosexuals will really understand what it means to be a warrior. It is much more than just words it is a lifestyle with rewards and built in pitfalls. A wife will never fill the hole of not being among like souls leaves in a person. Those that think they can are not in touch with reality.
I retired a long time ago and I still feel the pull. When they bury me the last thing I will hear is TAPS and that is as it should be.

But what I found most jarring about Avatar was its overtly anti-American and anti-military bias. The Hurt Locker was probably better, but I wonder what movie he watched in place of Avatar. The US military and government were not in Avatar. It was an Obama/Leftist style corporation and mercenaries. The health care system (actually run by the government in the only mention I recall) denied the veteran the surgery to fix his legs, forcing him to become a mercenary himself in order to get care. There are a lot of anti-Left themes in it. I'm sure they are not on purpose, but they are there.

I'm in the military and I liked Hurt Locker. Once you let go of "accuracy" (it is a movie after all) and allow yourself to just watch it its a good flick. I had to laugh at the part where he pulled up the shells from the road
by the det cord though.
If your looking for accuracy in war movies your going to see lots of troops waiting around smoking, arguing, talking, eating and sleeping. Really thats how most of the time in theater is spent, waiting.

The crowning point to the whole night was when James Cameron's ex wife beat him out on Best Director AND Best Picture. Cameron is an egotistical a-hole.

Well it was great surprise the “Hurt Locker” pulled it off, congrats to it.
With all the talk about “Avatar” and a producer of “Hurt Locker” having been barred from going to the Oscars because of a bad e-mail, did not expect “Hurt Locker” to win it, but it did.

The fact that soldiers almost unanimously hated The Hurt Locker, and the fact that the Hollywood left awarded it Best Picture, pretty much seals the deal that I have no desire to see it.
