The black Barbie should be re-named black ho Barbie and the price raised to $19.99. The dolls will fly out of the store.....

While my expertise in the world of Barbie is kinda limited to a few prekindergarten moments involving the beheading of my sisters collection and the fascination of toilet flushing... In an article dealing with PC gone to an illogical extreme, I must say that your followup, jlaughlin, did make me laugh. Very good stuff.

I think they are supposed to give them away for free at community centers.

“Obviously race activists dont understand the laws of supply and demand”
Well, yeah, what, do people think they spend their time trying to understand reality, or something? That’d only get in the way of shaking people down.

They could have “Community Organizer Barbie.”

Wait until it hits the $1 bargain bin!

I'm past the Barbie stage and had an only child — son. If I were in the market for a Barbie, however, I'd suggest they price the “white” Barbies, et al. at $3.00 and restore the price to $5.95 on the “black” Barbies. Of course, that WOULD be seen as racist, but I'd scoop up a bunch at the discounted price and give them to every little girl I knew. Every girl who wants a doll, should have a doll. I'd have given ANYthing a few birthdays and Christmases past to have “marked down” prices on desired toys. What a load of crap. There's a whole lot of truth to the old saying, “If you're looking for trouble, you'll find it.” Ms. Dye should have that stamped on her tombstone.

Supply and demand, it is the free enterprise way and there just ain’t that many folks who want a black barbie.
Not too many folks want this black president either.
Yeah yeah, I’m a racist.

Why Black Girls Still Prefer White Dolls
In the 1954 test, Clark showed children a black doll and a white doll and asked black children which doll they preferred. The majority chose the white. The findings were not surprising for the time. In the summer of 2005, Kiri Davis, a high-school teen, sat with 21 black kids in New York and found that 16 of them liked the white doll better.
"You hear the audience really gasp because they feel the pain," said Thelma Dye, who worked in Northside Center for Child Development, founded by the late doctor Clark.
"The result of the test is just as painful as [it was in the] 1950s," Thelma Dye said on ABC. "I would not take the film to say all the black children's self-esteem is suffering. We have to continue to ask questions about this film, to ask questions about its meaning."

I’m waiting on a sale price for the Long-Legged Mack Daddy Ken doll. Color doesn’t matter as long as it’s soft enough to stick pins into.

It would indeed be racist if it were 3/5 the price
Excellent constitutional argument. In fact, I see no reason why those Black Barbies shouldn't immediately be registered as Democrats in my district. I also noticed that they are under-represented on Wal-Mart Management staff.
P.S., I gave my kid the cheaper doll. Until you guys went public, she would have been happy with it.
