IIRC, the historical Patrick was a Romanised Briton (British Celtic).

I read somewhere that he was a Gallo-Roman but your post makes more sense.

Culturally, Gallo-Roman would be close, as the Gauls and the Britons were both Brythonic Celts, and both groups, by the late 4th century, had been in the Empire for centuries. Romano-Britons had a lot of traffic with the Irish, who were never subjugated by Rome.
