ART “Jibby” Jibilian was a hero whose World War II exploits were buried in the mark of global politics. In recent years, details have emerged of the daring, behind-enemy-lines rescue of hundreds of downed Allied airmen in which he played a prominent role. These details make clear that Mr. Jibilian, who died this month at 86, was indeed one of the greatest of the Greatest Generation.

I’ll be honest. I don’t think that I’d have had this much courage. I’m not even sure if I’d have had the courage to fight during wartime. I served after Vietnam,. so I’ll never know,. but I have the utmost respect for all who have fought for our country (or currently are serving).
I know exactly what you mean, birdsman. Last night I told Arthur’s daughter that I know that I don’t have what it takes to do what those who serve in the military have to go through.
They amaze me.
