It was during the bills hearing that Sen. Patrick Leahy, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, made the following statement: Because he was born to American citizens, there is no doubt in my mind that Senator McCain is a natural born citizen, said Leahy. I expect that this will be a unanimous resolution of the Senate. At a Judiciary Committee hearing on April 3, Leahy asked Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, himself a former Federal judge, if he had doubts that McCain was eligible to serve as President. My assumption and my understanding is that if you are born of American parents, you are naturally a natural-born American citizen, Chertoff replied. That is mine, too, said Leahy. Whats interesting here is that Sen. Leahy, the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary, confirms that a natural born citizen is the child of American citizen parents. Parents thats two. Thats BOTH parents. LOL. They were all referring *only* to a person known to be born outside the United States, John McCain. They would not have said the same about a person born within the United States. Why haven't any of you called the State Department and asked a simple question about this? You don't want to hear the law from the horse's mouth? You'd rather dance around the fire chanting silly songs?

The U.S. State Department’s Foreign Affairs Manual discusses problems associated with dual citizenship:
7 FAM 081: U.S. Policy on Dual Nationality:
(e)While recognizing the existence of dual nationality, the U.S. Government does not encourage it as a matter of policy because of the problems it may cause. Dual nationality may hamper efforts by the U.S. Government to provide diplomatic and consular protection to individuals overseas. When a U.S. citizen is in the other country of their dual nationality, that country has a predominant claim on the person.

Why haven't any of you called the State Department and asked a simple question about this? Why don't you read the State Department's own statement on presidential eligibility, it has been posted on FR many times.

Are you still holding to your previously posted drivel?:
" The citizenship of your parents has nothing to do with yours. If you are a U.S. citizen now, and you never were naturalized as a U.S. citizen, then you are a natural born citizen.?
