That would be comparing apples and oranges, though. This comment makes the point:

In the case of this platform failure, it is the same type of behavior. And, I am very suspicious about how this high technology drilling platform allowed combustible gasses to gush out onto the platform deck. How is it possible? These platforms are engineered to such an advanced technology, there is no way that such an event could happen unless it was intentionally allowed to happen. I say it was intentionally allowed to happen to score points against the drill here, drill now efforts. It was intentionally allowed to happen to score points for the environmentalists who are failing in their efforts with the global warming carbon credits scheme.
This disaster will hurt America, no doubt about it. It is the burning down of Capitalism before our eyes.
Great post.
Also, I’m glad you pointed out that Pres. Bush called the governor of LA several times and told him that, by law, the president could NOT take action to help unless the governor asked for it. Blanco refused each time. Still, NOLA was BUSH’S FAULT according to the media.
Excellent correct commentary; the law is called Posse Comitatus, a quasi-Constitutional law that prohibits the feds from sending troops into the states and billeting them in private homes. Had Bush ignored this law and sent troops in, he would have likely faced impeachment.
As always, the Dems get to have it both ways.
That was the point. Guess I need to start placing a /s at each post.

That, IMHO, should have been the first data point on the timeline posted here. Because it pins direct, concrete responsibility to Obama for whatever the Federal government had the capacity to do, and did not do, to ameliorate the damage due to Deepwater Horizon. My only quibble with the "Katrina" equivalence is that the evacuation of New Orleans and surrounding areas was a local/state issue and President Bush could not go in before being invited. IIRC the LA Gov Blanco specifically rebuffed offers from the admin to come in and coordinate. The BP oil rig is far beyond the 3 mile limit of state jurisdiction. It was the Fed's responsibility from the get-go. Obama and his administration is far more responsible than what happened during Katrina."
And, since his administration was responsible for the Coast Guard budget, he bears some responsibility as well for whatever capacity the government could have had, and did not. Meanwhile, there's a company which ramped up production of oil booms to clean up some of the mess - and neither BP nor Obama has ponied up a dime to get any of it. I guess Obama has tapped out the "stimulus" money paying government employee unionists . . .
