ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) Tiger Woods' longtime swing coach resigned Monday night, leaving the world's No. 1 player without one of his top advisers as he tries to rebuild his game.
Hank Haney said in a statement to the Golf Channel that he enjoyed working with Woods but he thinks it's time for him to step aside as his coach.

A disc problem in his neck? Sounds a bit convenient for a golfer looking for a reason not to play. It’s sufficiently vague that is can’t be disproven. Looks like Tiger might just be taking the rest of the year off after all.
A moment of sympathy is warranted.
OK, I'm done.
I would love to believe that Tiger has learned his lesson and is actually trying to turn his personal life around, but that is IMPOSSIBLE. All he has demonstrated in the past six months is unbridled arrogance with an occasional pathetic attempt at contrition.
All I'm saying is that he's out there on the receiving end of public humilation over and over again. How is that affecting his happiness? His wife? His children? Does he need more fame? More money?
It's his call, not mine, not Obama's. I just think that if I were in his shoes I'd step away from a glamorous public life and just focus on rebuilding my family.
Ya know, I have almost as much disdain for the folks kicking Woods while he’s down as I do for Woods himself. The glee of some folks in Woods’ fall from grace is astounding. Just for the record, I haven’t read many comments here, but I’m mainly talking bout sports forums and talk radio.
common man and common man’s experiences can fix Tiger if only a common man could just speak to him
I'm more disgusted in a culture that produced and admires the dozen women that preyed on his weakness.
That is my take, he will eventually reach the acceptance phase and turn to Kutilda for guidance and support. Until then his world will remain in turmoil.
Now, on to the 'injury', Tiger may be a true crossroads in his career. If his neck is bad he will NEVER be the golfer he once was. He might have moments of brilliance (see Couples, Fred - back - and Love, Davis - neck) but he will never be the consistantly dominant player he was.
He can make changes that will alleviate the issue somewhat, but it will be at the expense of what made him the best to ever play the game. He will become just another golfer, just as capable of winning or missing the cut any given week.
I speak to this from experience. I was a single digit handicap from the time I was a teen through my late twenties. Then I injired my neck in a car accident (sound familiar). from that day forward my game deteiorated no matter what I did. Now at 48 I carry an 18 handicap and have for the last 12 years, I still have days where I will shoot 79-81, but that will be followed by a series of 89-95 rounds because I just cannot turn on the ball.
I compounded it by making adjustments that put stress on my lower back, and usually by the end of 18 holes I am in horrible pain either in my neck or hips. I love the game and grit my way through it, but I have not been able to play golf on consecutive days for at least 10 years, and usually can only physically play 3-5 times in a month or it impacts the rest of my life detrimentally.
Now, obviously, I do not have the doctors, therapists and treatments Tiger will have at his disposal, but you can see the professional tour littered with formerly magnificent players who heard the dreaded words "neck problems" or "back problems"
Tiger may still reach or break Jack's major title record, but that is in serious doubt now, and as soon as Tiger walked off the Sawgrass course and said he had "neck problems" his aura of invincibility on the golf course disappeared forever.
"Tiger Woods' Ball-Washer Remains Onboard!"
I think this has probably demonstrated how critical his father was to his success.
Maybe his mother will turn out to be his rock.
He definitely needs someone, either his mother or some mentor. He needs to take at least the rest of the year off and become a grown up.
I've always taught my children that their is a fine line between arrogance and confidence and that quite often others will not be able to tell the difference.
That said, I'm willing to cut ^the golfer^ Eldrick Tiger Woods some slack but only so far as he rejects arrogant grandstanding (his Nike ad?) but is the embodiment of confidence (as he once was) on the course.
IOW, go out, play great golf and then disappear into he woodwork until the next tourny. (Which is what the other players generally do.)
Then he should have NEVER gone on TV to talk about it.
Full agreement from me.
Agree, I think this will be much like the period from the mid-80’s until Tiger came along. No truly dominant player, but a series of extremely talented players bouncing the #1 title back and forth.
He could hire a half dozen teen queens and spend the summer rehabing from his recent rehab.
After he has had his fill of booze and wild sex he can get back to golf and doing Cialis ads.
Imagine Tiger and a nubile teener in a pair of tubs. {ever wonder how those tubs get into the woods?-- pun intended}
