BILOXI A new casino in Biloxi could go before the Mississippi Gaming Commission for site approval in June, Mayor A.J. Holloway said today.
Its not going to be a big casino but any kind of facility will be good with us, he said during the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce Breakfast with the Mayor at Edgewater Mall. He said more details will be released after the plans go the Gaming Commission.
The city has been getting a lot of interest from builders and developers, he said, and two or three hotel developers who already own property in Biloxi are talking about building 60-to 120-room hotels.
Biloxi saw back-to-back increases in sales tax revenue in March and April and Holloway said the casino revenue is better than last year. While he is hoping these positive signs are a trend, We face a whole new uncertainty with this oil spill.
Have any of the Gulfport casinos opened back up yet?
Only one, the Island View, which has an Emirel’s Fish House in it. That’s all there will be for now. There are one or two in Bay St. Louis and plans for one in D’Iberville. The construction on the Jimmy Buffet casino in Biloxi has stopped for now for lack of funding due to Mr. Obama’s recession.
Jimmy Buffet is a Obama voter.
I have to say Tunica is better than Biloxi/Gulfport.
I haven't been there. How so?
I think the hotels are much nicer. I honeymooned at the Beau Rivage in 2000 and was not impressed.
The buffet accross the river in Helena, Arkansas is better than the Beau Rivage.
Now, with all that said, I just got back from Vegas and the Wynn sucked big time. A buffet that costs almost $40 a person and the main entree is flank steak. I kid you not. And the restaurants’ prices are the same so you’re stuck there and have to eat. If you take a cab the cost ends up being the same. I didn’t check the other casino prices so they may have been out of sight, too. I won’t be back.
