9) Self-promoters - These people range from spammers and link-baiters to honest people just trying to promote something good. But their comment is all about promoting something else, not contributing to the post directly.

my job in SEO makes me a link-baiter! And once you've mastered that skill, what will you be? :=)

Say that reminds me, apparently if you don’t keep tabs on the goats, they’ll end up on your car. They seem to like high places.
Don’t ask me how your post made me think of goats. There are all sorts of secondary indexes attached to the data in my brain. ;)

If I'm Catholic does that make my dog Catholic too? Dunno. How does he take his dog biscuit?

Lol, you know this could become a really funny thread!
Most of us probably fall under several of those type of commenters.
There are those of us who post graphics and I admit to often being a hit and run poster on those occasions. But I always try to respond to a reply.
The ‘pingers’ often amuse me, those who ping dozens of people to their every word........they often get few replies, and often don’t reply to those who do respond.
Then there are the groups, the cliques. One comes on, gets into a argument, pings their friends who all pile on and try to get someone in trouble. It happens more often now.
The ‘cussers’ are becoming more frequent, even though it’s supposedly not allowed.
And finally, there are the lovey-dovey, huggy, smoochie ones whose sugery sweetness runnith over, lol.
Yep, today I fall into the ‘complainer’ category, but I don’t do it often.

My comment might be any of the above:
The post is worth "bumping" to allow others to see it ( and yes - I know this is about blogs...)
The poster found something interesting and I want to say "thanks" but have to think about the content before commenting for real...
Everything worth saying IS said in the headline..
It's fun to write comment...

What an awesome post! I'm going fishing on Saturday but I promise to watch out for Dorothy. I may even try cheese for bait since everyone on this thread is suggesting it. You folks are so helpful and encouraging that I know I must be the luckiest girl on earth to have such good FRiends!

Ah yes, there are also those Categorizers, the pedants who have to define and and evaluate all others. They are above it all, needless to say.

Great thread, NYer! (Shameless appeasing.)
Personally, there are but two types; the ones I bother to read and the rest which I ignore (too many times a good thread heads off into the Twilight Zone making a response not worth the effort).
