COREXIT & GM CROPS (Dispersement chemical is frightening)
The Other News ^

Corexit EC9527A is 30-60% 2-Butoxyethanol by weight. 2-B ( I will use the abbreviation 2-B ) is a main ingredient in many fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides ( especially Roundup ), insecticides, fuels, fungicides, cosmetics & leather treatment , and oddly enough, it is commonly used for " handling " oil spills .

It has never been tested on any type of marine life for longer than 9 days, and the effects that are known, is that it's mutagenic , teragenic and carcinogenic. As far as the testing on humans or other mammals , there is plenty, it's all below.

In the United States, the primary manufacturers of 2-B are : Eastman Chemical, Dow Chemical and Equistar. Monsanto and Dow AgroSciences LLC, a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, are in partnership to develop GM crops. Monsanto sales of GM seeds in the US cover 90% of the market. There are also projects being undertaken by Makhteshim Agan, an Israeli bio-engineering firm purchased by Cibus Global .

2-B is the very same chemical genetically modified crops are engineered to resist. It's the identical solvent/chemical compound that seed strains like Roundup-Ready Corn. as well as a majority of the cotton and oilseed crops in the continental US. are engineered to resist. Monsanto also pushed for the passage of laws preventing farmers from saving their own seed without state regulations, thus forcing many to purchase Monsanto GM seedstock. The plants are also engineered to be sterile, forcing farmers to purchase expensive seedstock for every growing season. The official name for these seeds is the " Terminator ' series.

So this is the same chemical made to kill all plants except the genetically modified crops. Russia has already warned that the Gulf is warm enough that this water/chemical would be absorbed into the atmosphere (ie: clouds) and if it does, what will happen to the vegetation it rains on? My children are already suffering the effects of Agent Orange, is this similiar?

I hope there are some science types here who can ease my fears about this.

What a crock, most herbicides are by nature some type of salt, like in sea salt maybe. And anyone that worries about GM foods is an ill educated fool. People have been drinking cows milk for ten of thousands of year and I have yet to meet a person that moo’s. You body does not break down food on a genetic level.

I swear I do believe if I went out and cleaned my truck’s windshield, that some uneducated, fearful doofus who heard something from a friend of a friend about the effects of the soap on rats in the sewer would have a cow and call the damn local TV station.....and it’s downhill from there.

You might want to find something else to worry about.

2-b is not the active ingredient in Roundup. It is the carrier solvent.
Glycosphate is. It is a phosphate of glycine, an amino acid.

Want to feel better?

Read this: The Patriot's Flag - Dispersants and the Piper.

The "tune" being played on the internet is the "dangerous chemicals being added to the water" ... its BS. Dispersants are the ONLY thing saving the A$$ of the guy who is trying to find out who's A$$ to kick! These things are used all the time, they are safe (they have to be or they couldn't be legally used anyway). I've also included a link to the latest meeting notes (pdf) of the group that met to discuss the application of dispersants, the tactics they are using, etc.

But alas, the hype I'm hearing on the internet is making me sick. Some of the "conservatives" are dancing to the Environmental Pied Piper's tune (again). I thought they would have been a little smarter after the global warming hoax. People would rather "dance" to doom and gloom than dig a little and understand the facts. Don't fall for the "alarmists" tune they are playing, if the media sways public opinion on this one, we are in trouble ... what we are doing is the ONLY game in town and it is working, emulsifying the crude so it can be NATURALLY consumed by the oleophilic bacteria that have been "eating" oil (that always is leaking) in the gulf long before man walked on Pensacola beach!

And for the S.A. that gave me an "answer" last time ... no I don't own stock, I just dug for the facts!

The 2 butoxy compound, which this blog describes is an agent with these concerns. The proprietary product, COREXIT, is a product of NALCO,Inc. one of the largest water quality companies in the world. Corexit has been tested, approved and used for more than 25 years, and the EPA has declared it non-toxic. So, this article is moving facts around. The COREXIT product is proprietary, and someone is reading off what must be declared in it’s Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), and there could be some 2B in it.. but not anywhere near the content of what the blog is quoting in other uses.

Thank you. Biochemist here. You said it very simply, my prior post dealt with NALCO’s product which may utilize 2B in its solvent capacity. COREXIT is considered non-toxic. This has not stopped MSNBC from calling it toxic, however.
The PPMs of the net result of COREXIT contacting crude are pretty minute in the vast oceans.

How did your children happen to come into contact with “Agent Orange” which was a military defoliant in the Vietnam era? What age are your children now?

Great post. Oleophilic bacteria are our friends and these bacteria have been around for many eons. Thanks also for pointing out that oil seeps up from the ocean floors all over the world, quite naturally. There are people, you know, who if they only knew the chemical stew being created by the fumaroles in the deep ocean (around which grow chemosynthetic new life forms) would somehow try to correct that natural development.

My children are 12 and 14 years old. Their father was conceived right after his father came home from Vietnam where he was right in the jungle where they sprayed. Their father suffered from seizures of an unknown nature for 12 years until Agent Orange was acknowledged and some tests designed somehow that St. Jude diagnosed my ex-husband with “Agent Orange disorder” of the nuerological sort.

My oldest daughter suffers from Spina Bifida and her sister suffers from the same seizure disorder (her brain scan was very similiar to her father’s as they were anxious to understand what was wrong since she was having seizures from newborn-although newborns don’t have severe ones. Those don’t start until toddler age)

Agent Orange directly effects sperm and while it’s not as severe as second generation AO disease, they are collecting data for third generation now.

Hey guys, this is a little worrisome...

http://www.wreg.com/news/wreg-mystery-crop-damage%2C0%2C187535.story?track=rss

Memphis 6/1/2010) A mystery is unfolding across MidSouth farms.

Something is killing crops, trees, even weeds and nobody can explain why.

Farmers are scratching their heads and some are worried their crops may be lost to the mysterious plague.

Sign Up For ALERTS From Us

It’s happening along a large swath of land near the Shelby and Tipton county border along Herring Hill Road and elsewhere near the Mississippi River bottoms.

Tiny dots appear to have burned onto leaves of all types of plants, and they appear different depending on the plant.

On corn stalks, the dots seem to turn white in the center.

On other plants, a white dust speckles the leaves and then destroys the green life underneath.

“We found it all in the herbs, in the flowers, in the plum tree, in the weeds,” said organic farmer Toni Holt. “It’s apparently in everything.”

Holt grows organic produce that she sells at area farmers’ markets.

As she and other farmers inspect the new growth covered in the perplexing plague, they fear their entire crop may be lost.

Less than ten miles from Holt’s crops, the damage could possibly hit hundreds of acres of corn at Wilder Farms.

It appears to have hit everything in its path.

There does not seem to be anything in common with the affected plants.

The Holts raise organic crops, so they don’t spray pesticides on any of their fruits and vegetables.

The first thought among some was a new parasite or insect caused the damage, but Wilder farms sprays pesticides and the damage there is exactly the same.

Farmers first noticed the damaging dots over the weekend.

Then Holt came home to find baby birds dead in their nests.

“There are two dead birds hanging out of two different bird houses, so we’re concerned about that. We don’t know if it’s related, but it’s alarming,” said Holt. “We’ve got horses, we’re concerned about the horses on the grass. We’ve got chickens. We sell our eggs at the market.”

Farmers we spoke with are convinced something in the air caused this damage.

They’re asking the USDA and other experts to look into the problem, and so are we.
