“The Lottery” discloses some disturbing facts: “58 percent of black children in the fourth grade are illiterate,” and “only 10 out of 55,000 tenured teachers were fired” in 2008, because “firing a bad teacher ends up costing the city $250,000.”

Myths were quickly propagated by unions and politicians, claiming that charters were divisive, and a “tool for gentrification.” But Sackler noted that “this canard only holds up if you think uniforms and longer school days are a sign of cultural imperialism.”

The two statements above make it hard for me to feel sorry for the people trapped in these failed systems. The residents of Harlem automatically vote the same POLITICAL HACKS into office every election cycle. As long as they choose to stay on the Democrat/Progressive plantation the problem will persist. It's a travesty that people like Charlie Rangel represent this district, and Hussain claims to be all about the "community" yet they kill EVERY educational initiative because of their dependence on Teacher's Unions for support.

Yeah, lets throw more money at failing schools, it's worked so well for the past 1/2 century.

I heard this film being discussed on our morning talk show about a month ago. I keep checking Netflix to see when it is available.
