I went to public school in the 40s/50s. At the age of 7, my father accompanied me to the library to sign permission for me to have an adult library card with no restrictions. I was able to read and understand every one of the ten books I was allowed per week. In fact, by age 8, the librarians would no longer accept my book reports. They told me they knew I had read the books and understood them. I had some peer problems until I decided to dumb down my verbal speech. Teachers often told me they had to look up my vocabulary when grading my papers. I was taught correct grammar and I use it.

I am not a genius. I am terrible at math and it has taken me decades to understand anything above the most basic in physics. My spelling skills are today dependent upon spell check.

I fully believe this boy wrote this article. For the life of me, I cannot see any of the so-called *comedy gold* he and others mention. He describes a tragedy that could have been written as science fiction 60 years ago. Not only are boys enthusiastically discriminated against, conservatives are, as well.

We need another Civil Rights Movement.

While I do believe it is possible, I simply do not believe this boy wrote this. It’s a gut instinct. Even the tenor of it is not that of an eleven year old boy. There is more to it than just the vocabulary.

As for you not being a genius, you probably are in some areas. Let’s all just be grateful for our different gifts and talents. God is good!

P.S. When I was in 7th grade (1970) I was hauled into the Principal’s office. I was nervous as I had no idea what was going on. They told me I was already reading at the collegiate level. I have never forgotten that. Of course, it was probably par for the course. My father had been slipping me books for years... I read Jane Eyre at age 12. My own son read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich at age 13. I think parents are the most important elements with regard to the literacy of their children. They must model it in the home.

I learned to read at age 5 an my mother got me a library card. I too had to dumb down my speech or my buddies would harass me and not want to hang out with me. I am also not a genius, having an IQ of 141. I could have easily used the language this kid did at age 11. Think what a kid with an IQ of 160 or so could do at 11.
