The US is providing over 900 million dollars worth of used US Army equipment to the Iraqi Army with the Iraqis paying 143 million for their share of refurbishment costs. The majority of the equipment being transferred is 1,026 M113 variants of vehicles with the remaining 255 items being artillery and support.

They can’t buy it off us?? we have to give an Oil Producer things of value?
But your point is well taken.
This is all equipment that we are replacing and junking.
With our EPA restrictions, it is cheaper to give it away than it is to scrap it...
PS They are already maxing out thier budget buying mostly US. Bell 407s, 35m PBs, C130J, F16, M1A1, etc...
Well! It goes to show that yes, our troops can recycle too!
lol.
We have been doing this for decades.
Sigh.
This makes me feel old. When I was in, I drove an M113 and took care of it like it was my first-born. And was on top of the world.
Life goes on, I guess.
Well they need to step up and pay their way a little here.
Cheaper to leave it there than to ship it back here only to be discarded/junked.
They are spending 10x that in purchases thru US FMS in the current budget. And that is just the purchases going thru the US. I consider 90% to be fair...
Iraq has been spending more on their army than the US does since 2006.
precisly.
Especially since it costs mony to scrap them with our EPA rules.
Cheaper for the US Army to donate them than it is to keep or scrap them...
Well, if “Lord of War,” is any indication, it also supplies opportunities for our more entrepreneurial citizenry.

Thank You.
You can make a lot on spare parts.
Give them the equipment and make the proffit on spares and ammo...
Yep, now it's MRAPs and Strykers. I saw an M113 once in my NG unit when I first began my military career, but they're all pretty much mothballed now.
