The day Mother Teresa told me, "Your poverty is greater than ours"

...As a young reporter, I immediately warmed to this gentle woman who went on to win the Nobel Peace Prize, for she had seen more poverty than anyone I had ever met. Speaking in the founding, festering slum where she made her simple home, I was surprised to hear her express pity for the "poverty-stricken West."

"The spiritual poverty of the Western World is much greater than the physical poverty of our people," she told me, as the fan whirred above us, trying to alleviate the unbearable heat of that Indian city.

Emptiness

"You, in the West, have millions of people who suffer such terrible loneliness and emptiness. They feel unloved and unwanted. These people are not hungry in the physical sense, but they are in another way. They know they need something more than money, yet they don't know what it is.

"What they are missing, really, is a living relationship with God." ...

Charity is often a luxury expense to escape one’s own poverty.

The socialist impulse to redistribute earnings is perhaps the worst use of this luxury expense.

On this point, she was right. God blessed us with much...and we forgot WHY. We even forgot Him....

YES, it is...but many people are beginning to realize this. They are asking God’s forgiveness and beginning to change in substantial ways. ;-)

I hate to add this....but the bulk of the popular culture will come to the same realization only after more serious difficulties.

I totally agree with your conclusion. Too many fail to appreciate what they have. And it is only when faced with the loss of what they’ve for so long taken for granted that the scales begin to fall away from the eyes. This is where we are at now and, sadly, circumstances are not improving.

People have a tendency to avoid religion. Actually when they find it, they feel good>:).

I honestly don’t think it’s a tendency to avoid it....but rather the tendency to focus on self and what self THINKS it wants instead. It’s ironic in a way....because the self subconsciously WANTS a relationship with its Creator.

Our pursuit of “happiness” has often led us in the wrong direction. Then there is the subversion of our thinking by evil....which incorrectly tells us that a relationship with God will end our personal happiness.

You are absolutely right to say that when we find God...we are REALLY happy.

I think it will get MUCH worse. I also think that we will see an amazing explosion of God’s grace. ;-)

Socialism is based upon the sins of theft, greed, resentment and jealousy. That is why it only leads to more poverty and terrible corruption and oppression.

Socialists lie when they name their political ideology of redistribution the same as Christianity’s alms for the poor. They are opposite spiritual actions.

“Seek ye first the kingdom of God,...”

We don’t have a need to seek God, because in forgetting from whom all our blessings have come, we think we can solve our own problems and fill our own needs. But that self fulfillment has left us empty inside. And we continue to try to fill that emptiness with stuff, when only the ‘bread of life’, the living water that was offered to the woman at the well can truly satisfy.

Couldn’t agree more.

The Left infiltrated the theological seminaries at about the same time they infiltrated academe. They implemented the same subversive teaching as academe. They subverted and misrepresented many of Jesus’ key teachings to preach Socialism as part of the Christian obligation.

I have been to the slums of Calcutta. Folks there have absolutely nothing on the West. The commie Albanian dwarf is lying as usual.

And she said this before she banked the $1.25M cheque from Charles Keating.
