The problem is Palin has to many prior commitments lined up already. Palin still has to film her Alaskan series and wrote her next book. Then by the end of August Palin hit the road again with speeches and gear up for the election season. By the end of November her book will be out and another book tour will commences.
So I would say Palin has a full plate right now.
I agree with another Freeper’s suggestion - Lynne Cheney would make a spectacular GOP Chair.
Sarah needs to be named as the RNC chair.
It would give her the chance to travel to all 50 states and meet and “adjust” the party machine to her liking. The exposure would be great and the RNC would pay for it all.
As the 2012 election deadlines approach, she could assess her chances and either stay as RNC chair or run.
This would be a great way to see how she plays on the national stage over an extended period and with real issues to debate. I doubt if she could learn as much about the issues in any other role. She could also do a lot to connect the RNC to the middle class.
Lynne Cheney would probably do a better job than Sarah, but her last name would keep the “Bush’s and Cheney’s fault” mantra alive through the election.
Sarah could blame everything on Obama/Reid/Pelosi and focus the electorate.
Liz Cheney would be perfect for a number of reasons. She’s articulate, bright and we are having the year of the Conservative Woman.
I envision Steele seguing right into the Colin Powell role: 20 years of guest TV appearances offering political commentary with ‘gravitas’ as a former RNC chairman now feeling compelled to criticize his party gone too far right.

She already has more influence on the conservative movement - and if they choose to comply, the Republican Party - WITHOUT the position.
True. But if that person is to be Sarah Palin then it will be at the expense of her presidential aspirations.
I’m a Sarah fan. I do think she could do with a little more seasoning. The RNC might be right for a short term gig.
I don’t want Sarah trapped in this job where she would have to deal with Rinos.
She has bigger fish to fry and needs to stay independent where she can move towards a 2012 run.
However, Liz Cheney, whom I adore, doesn’t have any immediate political goals and this would be perfect for her. She’s sharp, attractive and totally conservative and it would gain her some name recognition.

The point is obvious. Sarah as Chair would open the door for Steele to run as Prez. Better to leave him where he can do the least harm.
Of course, the movers and shakers in the party are much too obtuse to see the consequences of their actions or, for that matter, to do anything that would define the party as conclusively conservative. Do not look for them to offer Sarah anything but the back of their hand.
Maybe he didn't go directly to the presidentcy but IIRC, George Herbert Walker Bush eventually ended up in the WH.

If she needed seasoning then she should have stayed governor of Alaska. She won't get it as RNC chair having to make the rounds and beat the drum for every RINO running for office.

I live in a practical worlds. Palin has got a lot of press picking and choosing who she supports in the Republican primaries. As RNC chair that has to stop. Palin has been selective in the RINOs she backs, and has gotten a lot of criticism on those she does support. As RNC chair she has to go out there and back every RINO running. As RNC chair, Palin is no longer the 'rogue' she loves to paint herself as. She is the party functionary and has to act as such.
If Palin wants to put a stamp on the GOP then fine, be RNC chair. If she wants to run for president in 2012 then forget it, there is no upside to her in accepting the spot.
