Contador puts time into Schleck setting up a showdown in the Pyrenees

Team Katusha’s Joaquin Rodriguez took the victory in stage 12 with GC favorite Alberto Contador finishing comfortably on his wheel in second place. More importantly, Contador gained ten seconds on overall race leader Andy Schleck, cutting his lead to just 31 seconds and setting up a showdown in the Pyrenees.

Schleck stays in yellow, however, if he’s not able to gain significant time in the Pyrenees, he has little hope of finishing atop the podium in Paris. Contador’s superior time trial skill will allow him to gain at least a minute if not two over the 52 kilometer TT. Rounds one and two went to Schleck with round 3 going to Contador who now has Schleck staggered against the ropes.

Contador is the new Lance Armstrong. He may even be better when all is said and done.

Given his young age, I agree wholeheartedly. The only question is can he stay hungry that long? Especially with the dramatic increase in riders salaries. Armstrong has had the same affect rider's earnings as Tiger Woods has on Golf. With Contador pulling down well over $3 million Euros a year on his contract plus endorsements it will be interesting to see if he wants to continue pushing himself that long. I hope he does because with Schleck being so young as well, we could have some very compelling TDF’s for the foreseeable future.

True. But he's not an American. Lacks the drawing power that Lance had. He may be good, but he's not the next Lance.

We may have to wait a while before we get the next Lance.

I agree. I meant the next Lance in terms of riding ability and success on a bike.

He won’t be near the draw Armstrong was. Probably nobody will. Cancer survivor and Texan who went to Frogland (France) every year and kicked some Euro butt. Seven in a row.

Loved it that they hated him so much.
