Meanwhile the US Army continues on the road to Hell in wheeled, road and trail bound CrapMobiles. The M113s which would work quite well in Afganistan and get out people off the roads and trails... Well we are selling them to the Iranian Proxy State of Iraq as well as our M1 Tanks..

Our Flag Officers are worse than idiots.. end of story.

Respectfully disagree. The M113 series vehicle would not be an improvement in Afghanistan for the same reason we have challenges with the HMMWV...inability to up-armor without the weight degrading performance and vehicle life, and the flat hull low to the ground takes the kinetic energy of a hit right into the crew compartment. They have uses, but will not solve our mobility problems in theater.

The Abrams? Well, we'll have to maintain them (Arabs don't “do” maintenance) train tank crews, and supply repair parts which essentially guarantees we will maintain positive control over the Iraqi M1 formations...otherwise they will be deadlined in a motor pool a week after we leave them...

regards,

You are aware that the M113 is more suseptable to mines and has been relegated to logistics roles for years as they were being replaced by Bradleys?

Flat bottom traps the blast and fuel-tank location turns it into an incenerator for troops.

That was learned in Vietnam which is why the Bradley has been replacing them every since. This is just getting rid of the last 6,000 fire-traps.

M113 has no better armor than the Bradley’s replacing them [or the Stryker that is motorizing the Lt Inf] and that combination of flat-bottom and fuel-tank makes them particularly suceptible to mines [aka IEDs].
