This has been an excellent year for comic book afficionados.

Between Kick-Ass (which may have been the best of the bunch), Iron Man 2, and the anticipatory orgasm going on over The Green Lantern, Thor, and the Avengers, comic book geeks have never had it so good.

And now comes Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World.

For many, Scott Pilgrim is an enigma. It is a comic book, but not one that mainstream non-comic book viewers have read. So this is in many ways the public's introduction to the character.

And what an introduction.

Every time I see the trailer for this film, I hate myself for wanting to go see it!

I was really surprised by this movie. I had no previous knowledge of the comic book. It was hilarious. Almost as hilarious was Roger Ebert's panning of it and complaining about how the little girl was being taught to kill without her realizing that when someone was dead they were dead forever. Wait a second, let me get the appropriate excerpt for your amusement:
"Big Daddy and Mindy never have a chat about, you know, stuff like how when you kill people, they are really dead. This movie regards human beings like video-game targets. Kill one, and you score. They're dead, you win."
Gee, I seem to recall that her mother had been mortally wounded by the criminals in this movie and her father framed and put in prison by the same guys. It seemed entirely appropriate that revenge for her mother's death and her father's suffering should have become the family business and that she should have been apprenticed to it from an early age.
