I think they underestimated the Flight Traffic System response to 9/11. I think they figured they’d have taken over more planes than they did, and would have caused more damage than they actually did based on the number of planes they had targetted.
My guess is that they’ll synchronize an attack by keeping their bombs in vans outside the city until morning drive time is complete. When traffic subsides and everyone is at work, they’ll drive those bombs into each city at the same time and set them off nearly simultaneously.
That would finally drive a stake in the heart of the US Economy and spike the dollar. There would be no nuclear retaliation by the US. If Congress is still D at the time, and Obama’s still in office, they will probably go to ground, because when word hits those bombs came through Mexico, they will have bounties on their heads for not minding the borders.
Everyone will cry crocodile tears at the brutality of it, and they will move on in six months time. The flow of aid to the US will be symbolic, and that will be that.
We’ll be as important to the world, at that point, as France maybe. Perhaps less depending on what we planned to do with our Nuke fleet.
May very well be that the Russians are teaching the Norks and others how to reliably produce the bombs they need, but there will be nothing tracing them back to the Russians.
At that point, it will be Russia and China vs. Israel, if the Russians and Chinese can agree not to kill each other first (not a certainty by any stretch).
It’ll be a shame to lose SF. Despite the politics, it is a gorgeous city. Same with NYC.

There’s a chance of that, but I doubt it seriously. There will be redundancies if the Russians show them how to do it. Also, this time, no martyrs. They’ll drive in, park, catch a bus, and make a cell phone call. They will have staked out which parking places they will use, and have back ups. They people perpetrating it will ex-fil that morning prior to the blast, and return to a hero’s welcome and to continue to lead the cause.
They’ll do it in the financial district for mass casualties. They won’t even attempt attacks on military bases to raise suspicion.
Drive to the top level of some of the parking garages in these cities and it is as good as a low level air burst. Park the van in the corner spot on top where there is no ceiling about five to seven stories up - big time damage with a 10KT nuke.
If they drove down to Ground Zero again in Manhattan, they could take out the entire tip of the city there now that the buildings are cleared.
You may even irreparably damage the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge from there.
For me, the Russian’s Chechen problem is a head fake. I think the Russians and AQ are arrayed against a common enemy in the United States. Payback for Afghanistan, and insurance that the Russians win for good this time.
AQ is arrogant enough to believe that with the US gone, they could handle the Russians.
With the US gone as a trading partner, China will have its own problems dealing with its population to worry about Islam.
